De wolkenbeelden wilde ik gaan maken, toen ik naar Zuid Afrika vloog en heel hoog in de lucht was en wolken zag en dacht 'wolken' blazen! Daar gaat studie aan vooraf. Tekeningen maken, foto's maken, nadenken hoe ze gemaakt kunnen worden, met welke kleuren enz. Dat bespreek je dan met de glasblazers, de meesterglasblazer waarvan je denkt dat die, door zijn specifieke manier van werken, het best de wolken kan maken. Het is een hele intense samenwerking. Je bereidt je voor op een weekje glasblazen, in de auto naar Tsjechië, je neemt alles mee. En als je daar zit tussen de hete ovens en de kleurstaven ontstaat langzaam het beeld dat er moet komen. Soms gaat het een dag niet, dan gaat alles 'fout' en maakt je creativiteit of je geest wel overuren. En dan ineens, en ook omdat het moet gebeuren omdat je daar bent, krijgt het vorm!

Those glass clouds. I wanted to make them when I flew to South Africa and, looking down from high up in the sky, I saw clouds: let’s “blow” clouds, I thought. But first you need to study how to do it, make drawings, take photos, think about how to make them, which colours to use, and so on. Then you discuss it with the glass blowers and with the master blower who seems to you to be the best person to make clouds because of his specific way of working. It’s a very intensive collaboration. You prepare yourself for a week of glass blowing, taking everything along with you as you set off by car to the Czech Republic. And as you sit there, between the hot ovens and the colour rods, gradually the form appears, as it was meant to be. Sometimes you have a bad day when everything goes wrong and your creativity and your mind are working overtime. And then, all of a sudden, maybe because it has to happen because you’re there, it takes shape.
